In Defense of Veneers
Veneers have gotten a bad reputation over the years by some people due to poor craftsmanship and improper gluing. The best logs and the rarest logs are cut into veneers. This makes the beautiful wood in these logs go much further than if the logs were cut into boards. This means that a table made of Macasar ebony veneer is affordable while one made from solid ebony would be cost prohibitive as well as a waste of a very valuable resource. Many things can be done with veneers that cannot be done with solid wood. See the drawer fronts on my walnut sideboard (link to be added later) and the doors on my Indian Motif Cabinet. Check out my Veneer Supplier’s website to see the variety of veneers that are available.
Not only do I use a lot of veneer in my furniture, I also teach a veneering class. Email me if you are interested in taking this hands-on class.
